Flaming Poppies

A bouquet of flowers fills the room with joy. For a short while they can bring life to even a dull room. These flowers are abstracted from a bouquet of real flowers, brought to me as a gift. For me, painting this way instead of realistically is more like writing truth using fiction instead of telling the truth using dates in a history book. “Flaming Poppies”    Watercolor     22″ x 30″

Little Bang

Little Bang

I abstracted this from a photograph of a flower I found in a seed catalog. I don’t remember the name of the flower. Since it doesn’t much resemble the exact flower that’s not important. What was important to me about this is how when looking very closely at a flower it does resemble an explosion. An explosion of life coming forth. I added the stylistic edges as it just pleased me. The shapes are so interesting and organic.

Blowin in the Wind

Ironstone Vineyard has the most amazing collection of Daffodils. One usually thinks of daffy, playful when thinking of these trumpet like flowers. But when I was done I just couldn’t help thinking of the song from the 60’s. “The answer my friend is blowing in the wind”. A more serious interpretation I know, but this painting took forever, I must have put at least 50 layers of the thinnest washes of transparent watercolor on it. You can not find one inch on this painting that is the same color as any other inch.

Eastermorn

Eastern Morn

These particular irises were painted from a photograph I took at the Modesto Iris Farm. I spent many hours there photographing beauty. I am happy now that I have hundreds of Irises in my own garden. Unfortunately the Iris Farm is gone, so this painting has special meaning to me and others who loved that farm. I am happy to say I can still offer Giclee prints and note cards.
